Matthew has more than twenty years experience in the wonderful world of the media. He started out in 1988 at a small recording company in South London where he worked as a sound engineer. He moved on to business affairs at EMI Records (UK) Ltd head office in the West End – where he bumped into stars of the day (Simon Le Bon, Jesus Jones, Blur etc…), before retraining at Falmouth School of Art and getting a job as a journalist at Radio Mercury in Sussex. Matthew has spent seventeen years in radio, with a short venture for a few years into PR.
Most recently, Matthew has worked for Plymouth Sound, Pirate FM, Radio Plymouth and Atlantic FM as a news presenter. Now he has branched out with his own business: www.kernowpods.com – “Bringing Broadcast Skills to the Business Community”. This encompasses the production of podcasts for companies and organisations as well as voice coaching.
Matthew sees the voice as the oldest business-marketing tool known to humankind, and also the most under-developed. “How many people use their voice everyday to close important deals and engage with colleagues? How many people make contact with clients over the telephone? How many of these people do anything about turning their voice into a real marketing asset? It seems crazy that few do when more than a third of the impression we make on someone is because of the way we SOUND!”
